The Grieving Body is an advanced professional development course building upon Professor Mary-Frances O'Connor' book, The Grieving Body (2025). It presents a fundamentally new understanding of grief — not as an emotional or psychological pathology requiring clinical intervention, but as a sophisticated biological response involving energy management crisis, regulatory system breakdown, evolutionary attachment responses, and remarkable adaptive learning processes.
The course integrates neuroscience, attachment theory, and physiological research to create a coherent, evidence-based framework for understanding and supporting the profound disruption that occurs when someone significant dies. It takes practitioners beyond traditional approaches to grief support, revealing how our bodies form energy partnerships with significant others, create invisible regulatory systems, and possess an extraordinary capacity for adaptation even after devastating loss.

This course was piloted in 2025 and received excellent reviews, with 100% stating they would 'definitely recommend this course to others".
This felt like a fundamental part of my learning, so thank you for designing the course and making it so accessible, and for your compassionate and inclusive facilitation and space holding.
I am just amazed how much this course has given me. I'd like to recommend it to everyone, not just death doulas.
This course was eye and heart opening for me. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to learn more about grief and grieving.
I gained so much from the course in terms of how it applies to other areas that I will be working in. The reframing of grief as a form of learning has been incredibly empowering for me.
